Team Commitments

The ā(2)E team is steadfastly committed to good corporate citizenship and fulfilling our social responsibilities:

Anti-Harassment

Act 2 Events, LLC, is committed to a work environment that is free from harassment. Harassment of any sort will not be tolerated, but is patently counter to policy when based upon certain traits, characteristics, or status of an individual, including: race; color; ethnicity; national origin; creed; religion; age; physical or mental disability; sex; sexual orientation; gender identity or expression; marital, citizenship or veteran status; military obligation; or genetic information. Sexual harassment is behavior of a sexual nature that is unwelcome and offensive to the person toward whom it is targeted. Examples of harassing behavior may include: unwanted physical contact; epithets and other foul language; jokes or remarks; sexual propositions; obscene gestures; and displays of pornographic or sexually explicit pictures, drawings, or caricatures. Use of the employer's computer system and/or IT assets for the purpose of viewing, storing, or disseminating material that is sexual in nature may also constitute harassing behavior. All employees and contractors are expected and required to abide by this policy. No person will be adversely affected in employment or contracting with ā(2)E as a result of bringing complaints of unlawful harassment.

Anti-Discrimination

We follow an equal opportunity employment policy. Act 2 Events, LLC, does not and shall not discriminate, and will take affirmative action measures to ensure against discrimination, on the basis of: race; color; ethnicity; national origin; religion (creed); age; physical or mental disability; sex; sexual orientation; gender identity or expression; marital, citizenship or veteran status; military obligation; or genetic information. This policy applies internally to employment, including advertisements for employment, recruitment, hiring, internal training, compensation, opportunities for advancement, upgrading, promotions, and terminations. ā(2)E does not knowingly affiliate with any individual, group, or organizations having policies that discriminate on the basis of any class of persons listed herein, and endeavors to apply this policy to clients, contractors, suppliers, and dealings with the general public.

Envrionmental Sustainability

From a day-to-day perspective, ā(2)E is organized on the principles of remote-operations architecture, wherein our entire team telecommutes from home-based offices. This model supports positive work-life balance and reduces event costs, but – more importantly – it reduces our total carbon footprint and furthers environmental sustainability. Moreover, from a much broader perspective, ā(2)E is committed to environmentally sustainable event production. By drawing upon events industry resources, and collaborating with ā(2)E’s circle of partners, clients, venues, and event supply chains, we endeavor to establish, manage, and measure situation-specific models for minimizing the environmental impact of events. These models are based upon the APEX/ASTM Environmentally Sustainable Meeting Standards – specific, formal, voluntary norms focused on prescriptive actions and measurable targets – but modified for the unique requirements and circumstances of the client and their event. The sectors of concentration are:

Community Engagement

As event producers, we have first-hand experience with the dramatic and indispensable differences that people and charitable organizations make in our respective communities. On one level, these efforts feed the hungry, house the homeless, and cure diseases . . . on another level, they heal hearts and soothe souls . . . and on yet another level, they tap into shared passions that strengthen individuals and build community bonds. Toward such ends, the ā(2)E team – throughout the years, individually and jointly – has committed its time, talent, and treasure to a variety of organizations, including:

Diversity & Inclusion

Act 2 Events, LLC, respects, values, and celebrates the unique attributes, characteristics, and perspectives that make each person who they are, and we believe there is enormous strength in diversity. Therefore, we strive to create an environment that helps us capitalize on the diversity of people and the inclusion of their ideas and solutions, which makes it possible for ā(2)E to meet the needs of our global and diverse client base and event attendees. We seek to foster greater levels of diversity and inclusion on our team, in our circle of partners, and throughout our supply chain, so ā(2)E is always looking for the best and brightest talent from all walks of life and backgrounds, including women, minorities, veterans, and those with disabilities.

Happiness

Life can be stressful, and we in the events industry know all too well that work can often be a big contributor to that stress. However, ā(2)E’s philosophy is that work shouldn’t be a dominant contributor to a person’s stress level; it should instead be a substantial source of fulfillment! By being friends in addition to work colleagues, we are able to support and encourage one another in meaningful ways, which – in turn – fosters our friendships and work environment. To strike that sweet spot, our team members frequently pause to recalibrate their work-life balance, and we prompt one another to utilize simple, common-sense techniques to keep life fresh, and meet the ā(2)E Happiness Challenge!

Jeffrey F. Clausen

Senior Partner & Event Producer

Jeff was first exposed to event production while working as a stagehand with his sister’s dance company. He later earned both his B.A. and M.A. in urban planning at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va., where he continued pursuing his event production interests as a lead technician, audio engineer, and lighting designer for touring concerts and Broadway shows. Following graduation, Jeff worked in the events industry as a freelance technician, and was eventually hired as technical director for Wedgewood Productions, Inc. Jeff’s time with one of the earliest firms in the industry exposed him to the many facets of event production, and broadened his experience to include business meetings, tradeshows, conferences, and conventions. As a founding partner of Act 2 Events, LLC, Jeff has continued to expand his knowledge base, approach the event production process holistically, and develop creative and elegant solutions to unique challenges . . . all of which adds value to virtually any program. Jeff’s particular areas of expertise include: event staging and technical management; content and talent management; logistics management; and budget management. When he’s not working, Jeff volunteers as technical director for a local community theater and, with his wife Terri, parents their two young sons.

Jeffrey W. Dickens

Senior Partner & Event Producer

Jeff began his event production career while at West Virginia University in Morgantown, W.Va., where he earned his A.S. in business administration, B.S. in accounting, and M.S. in advertising. While at WVU, he worked for the Arts & Entertainment division promoting and producing more than 250 professional, touring concerts, Broadway shows, speaking engagements, art exhibits, and theatrical performances, such as: Whitney Houston, R.E.M., Jay Leno, “Evita,” “The Sound of Music,” Greg Louganis, and Coretta Scott King. Following a decade in arts and entertainment, Jeff shifted to the private sector in 1996 and expanded his event production repertoire with business meetings, conferences and conventions, serving for 5 years as art and production director with Wedgewood Productions, Inc., an industry-founding firm. Jeff has continually broadened his knowledge base since becoming a partner with Act 2 Events, LLC, in 2003, particularly in the area of budget management. Along with his other areas of expertise – including design and brand management, and ancillary and special function management – Jeff contributes to holistic event production from the both the financial and aesthetic viewpoints. In his spare time, Jeff is a dedicated fan of Mountaineer football and basketball; enjoys spending time with his friends and family, and working in his yard; and tries to revel in as many movies, books and live performances as he can.

Kathleen T. Bayly

Event Producer

From the very start, Kathy was a natural for the events industry. After beginning her career in the Washington, D.C., world of trade associations, where she eventually served as vice president of conferences for the Direct Marketing Association, Kathy then shifted to the event producer side of the industry, and became director of logistics and account management at Wedgewood Productions, Inc. She has since continued with Act 2 Events, LLC, where she is known amongst her colleagues and clients as “The Logistics Queen.” Her sense of logic and flow, honed by years of experience, provides an uncanny ability to visualize an event from beginning to end . . . taking into account every aspect, process, step, and contingency in between. In addition to her national and international event-production experience, Kathy has a reputation for providing clients with unsurpassed, detail-oriented planning and on-site execution. Her success stories and solutions to difficult scenarios could fill a book, and – indeed – she has taught event planning and convention management at the collegiate level since 2001. Kathy is a graduate of the University of Maryland at College Park, where she received a B.S. in journalism. In her time off, Kathy and her husband Kevin enjoy traveling and being the dedicated grandparents of five grandchildren.

Many years later, Sarah then shifted to the private sector – working for several event management and production firms, as well as for Microsoft – where she continued to hone her skillsets in logistics management, budget management, attendee engagement management, and content and talent management, as well as design and brand management. Additionally, Sarah has extensive experience in the tradeshow and expo environment. She brings those same skills, varied interests, dynamic personality and professional vigor to Act 2 Events, LLC, where she has quickly become an integral member of the team. Sarah is an avid runner and triathlete, and relaxes with her hobbies that include gardening, movies and art welding, with a special interest in the repurposing of found materials.

Alisa’s involvement in the events industry began soon after she graduated from college. Her first job was as a producer at EDR Media in Beachwood, Ohio, where she honed her skills producing videos and media presentations. Since those first experiences, Alisa has steadily worked in the industry. After five years at EDR, Alisa moved east to Annapolis, Maryland, where she served as an associate producer with Mullin/Ashley & Associates, Inc. After several years, she finally struck out on her own and founded Clickit! Creative, an interactive design company. She and her husband, John, worked together to produce corporate training assets – including live events and videos – for a variety of national and international clients. Most recently, Alisa has served as vice president of marketing and creative services at Compass Marketing, Inc., a sales and marketing firm in Annapolis. A member of the Act 2 Events team since 2005, Alisa has put her broad experience to excellent use in the areas of video production, speaker management, and content management to ensure the success of our clients’ events. Leila V. Shearer

Event Designer

A group of friends who shared a love for art, music, food, travel, and camaraderie – and were not afraid of working hard to make it happen – lured Leila into event production back when the only permitted fonts were Helvetica and Helvetica. In conversation while rigging banners, it was uncovered that she had a graphic design background and was subsequently asked to work in the sign department of a local tradeshow company. Leila then parlayed that into something more specialized, serving as art director for more than six years with Freeman Seattle. So what began as a weekend side job turned into not only a full-time career, but her own firm as well, when Leila went independent in 2005. From there she learned every aspect of the event industry . . . from international shipping to production and logistics . . . all in service to strengthening her core passion for event strategy and design. Drawing on her in-depth experience with brand management, graphic design, and production in the high-tech and public sectors, Leila has developed a holistic approach to her work. Few can match her attention to detail, sense of balance, and innovative instincts, and she brings all of that with her to the Act 2 Events team. When she and her husband, jazz musician John Bishop, are not traveling, Leila likes to spend quality time with her hammock, wine, three bossy cats, and hapless dog – all while deluding herself with dreams of creating art again.

Patrick E. Folio

Event Producer

Patrick’s interest in event production was piqued while attending the 1992 Summer Olympic Games in Barcelona, Spain, where he witnessed the event’s elaborate complexity. Wanting to learn more about sporting events, Patrick left his family’s beverage business and entered West Virginia University to begin work on his M.S. in sport management, after which he accepted a logistics intern position with the Georgia State Games in Atlanta, Ga. He was subsequently engaged as venue logistics manager for Olympic Stadium with the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games, where he experienced event production on perhaps the grandest scale possible. After he moved into the private sector, Patrick served as managing director of events for Marketing Event Partners, and director of events for Logical Events and Promotions, producing regional and national grass roots marketing tours that broadened his knowledge base in regard to mobile and cause marketing. Patrick joined the team at Act 2 Events, LLC, in 2007 and has successfully applied his logistics management and attendee engagement management skillsets to business meetings, conferences, and conventions. Patrick also has a B.A. in international studies and an M.S. in public administration, and serves as chairman of the board of directors of the Fairness West Virginia Institute. In his rare free time, he enjoys gardening and cooking.

Though hailing from the Pacific Northwest, Lori has always seemed more like a citizen of the world. Not only has she lived in cities like San Diego, New York City, and Los Angeles, but she’s also traveled to such varied corners of the globe as New Zealand, Germany, and Japan. After studying criminology and criminal justice at Palomar Community College in San Diego, Calif., and law at Shoreline Community College in Seattle, Wash., Lori discovered her real passion in the events industry. She started with a six-year period as senior project manager at Janet Church & Associates in Seattle, and followed that up as marketing events producer for two years at AGENCY.COM. Lori started her own firm in 2001, and has since been a freelance contractor producing every type of corporate event . . . from conferences and seminars, to product launches and memorable special events! Her real specialty, however, is high-tech-sector tradeshows and expos, which are the definitive experiential event, and the intersection of design, production, technology, branding, and showmanship. Lori’s attention to detail, tight budgeting, cross-team planning, and flawless logistical execution in this particular environment will continue to keep her in high demand for many years to come. When she’s not working, Lori is passionate about all things family, softball and roller derby, having the bumps and bruises to prove the latter.

Stacy then completely shifted her focus to meetings and conferences in a position with the University of Washington, where she planned, managed and executed a variety of scientific conferences and symposia. Then, in 2007, Stacy joined the team at Act 2 Events, LLC, where – in addition to her contributions to logistics management and budget management – she has become a critical lead regarding content and talent management, design and brand management, and attendee engagement management. She excels at working within complex team environments to ensure a smooth planning process and successful execution of event, and especially enjoys taking on projects involving unique marketing and copywriting challenges.
